Over-sized Running Shoes: The Next Fad?

Over-sized running shoes

Say hello to the monster shoe!

Running continues to grow in popularity and so does the apparel to go with it!

Footwear, in particular, continues to transform for this popular sport. Shoes for runners come in many different shapes and sizes.

We’ve seen trends in minimalist running footwear, like Vibram Five Fingers, and some runners would argue shoes aren’t even needed!    I was never a fan of the Five Fingers type shoe, and for most of the people I see in the office, minimalist shoes are far too, well, minimal.

Now it appears the over-sized shoe has hit the market. Say hello to the super shoe!

The company, HOKA ONE ONE, has designed this new monster shoe with a “unique performance midsole geometry that features a higher volume, softer density, and greater rebounding foam than standard running shoes.” Basically, it has about 50% more cushioning than your average running shoe which purportedly provides excellent shock absorption and an inherently stable ride. While I’m not specifically endorsing this shoe, and will remain skeptical until I can get my hands (or feet) on a pair, I am in favor of good shock absorption and stability for your feet. Running can do a number on your feet and legs if not done with care and caution and the right shoe.

I’m not sure how this current trend is going to end up, but you can’t say the shoes aren’t interesting to look at, and one definite bonus is you’ll be taller with soles like those!
