Exercise: How Much is TOO Much?

How Much is Too Much?We are a society of extremes. It appears our “super-size” mentality has moved from the fast food drive-thrus across America into the gyms!

From CrossFit mania to “Ultra” Marathons, no exercise is too much anymore… or is it? Moreover, how do you know when your exercise goes from helping you to hurting you?

When Is It Too Much?

While exercise should definitely be a consistent part of your life,  it shouldn’t take over your life. Some days of exercise are intense—others, not so much. Ultimately, exercise is a stressor. That’s the underlying principle of it. But too much stress from exercise is harmful and your body can begin to break down.

Here are a few signs that you are “over-doing” it with your current exercise routine:

  • Extreme fatigue
  • Irritability
  • Moodiness
  • An elevated resting heart rate
  • Fever
  • Inability to work your earlier level

Obviously these “signs” can be symptoms of other problems, but these should also cause you to take a long hard look at your current exercise routine.

Besides your overall health taking a beating, your feet can suffer as well. Here are some podiatric problems that can result from too much exercise:
