Bracing for a Fall

Falling is the leading cause of accidental death among the elderly!

None of us should feel immune from falling as we age. Staying on our feet and avoiding falls should be a number one priority for all of us we enter the golden years.

Falls are the leading cause of accidental deaths in older people And, half of seniors who fall, will fall again within a year.

One of the ways I help my patients stay on their feet is through the use of the Moore Balance Brace (MBB). This brace is a custom-made ankle foot orthosis that works to help individuals with balance problems in a number of ways.

The MBB helps stabilize a weak foot by providing ankle support. The brace also helps improve proprioception by improving feedback to the brain by stimulating skin receptors on the ankles and feet. Proprioception is just a fancy way of saying how we know where our bodies are in the world around us!

The MBB is easy to put on and easy to use. It’s light-weight and has a velcro latch for easy closure.  My patients are normally very pleased with this brace and they hardly notice they have it on. And it’s even custom made in America—BONUS!

Using the MBB  in combination with other fall prevention strategies provides an individual with a much better chance at living longer and stronger! And it’s usually  covered by insurance companies, including Medicare and Medicaid.
